Yellow Alert in north of the capital - sea travel unsafe

A Yellow Alert has been issued from Malé atoll to the far north of Haa Alifu atoll.

MET Office said tonight that heavy rains is expected upto 3:45 a.m. to the north of Malé atoll. And wind will pick up to 50 mph during showers.

MET Office issues a Yellow Alert as a call to prepare for a possible worst-case scenario by the people in the region and the relevant authorities. And sea travel is not safe in the regions where a Yellow Alert has been issued.

The Yellow Alert is also in effect from morning to noon in the same region.

Weather expected up to 8 p.m. on Friday:

- Rain across the country

- Torrential rain with thunderstorms in some islands

- Winds at 8-18 mph from southwest and west for the southern atoll

- Winds at 13-23 mph at other areas, 40-50 mph during showers

- Seas in the south is expected to be moderate to rough

- Seas in the north is expected to be generally -rough

With strong winds and rain expected across the country, MET Office advises that all be cautious to the weather.
