Ministry of Islamic Affairs has started an investigation after Sheikh Ali Zaid said that there is an island in the Maldives where 70 percent of the people are not fasting. The ministry aims to find the source of the information and the alleged island.
Coordinator of the Islamic Ministry, Mohamed Ahsan told Sun Media today they are working to find the source of information but their attempts to contact the Sheikh Zaid have been unsuccessful so far.
Sun Media have also attempted to contact Sheikh Zaid for further information but he is not answering his phone.
In his lecture at the “Viyafaarivehinge Miskiy” after the Salat al-Asr yesterday, Sheikh Zaid said that when his visited on his visit to the south, 70 percent of the people on the island does not fast and he was surprised that people cook and eat in Ramadan like a regular month.
A number of people have been criticizing the Sheikh for his remarks and say that it is not something that is believeable.
