While over 24 hours have passed with a large portion of the island of Thimarafushi without electricity, FENAKA Corporation has said that service is being delayed due to sabotage at the powerhouse.
Managing Director of FENAKA Corporation, Ahmed Shareef told Sun Media today that the tampering was discovered when the team of technicians for the Thaa atoll region inspected the powerhouse. He said that it took a long time to detect the problem and the problem has now been resolved and service resumed.
Shareef said that a wire was connected wrong intentionally to disrupt electricity service in the island.
He said that it is not something that be done by someone other than the powerhouse staff and they are looking for the culprit now which would be followed by a report to the police to run a criminal investigation.
Shareef said that it is believed to have done in an attempt to create political chaos in the island.
“This a problem that occurred at sunset on Friday. The problem came this far because a group of people obstructed the service to the people, no? That is a very serious thing as I see it.” Shareef said.
