Dangerous incidents unfolding due to severe weather

A number of dangerous incidents have started taking place in the central atolls following the severe weather of the South-West Monsoon in the Maldives.

With a Yellow Alert in effect in the central atolls of the country from Noonu atoll to Vaavu atoll upto 10:30 p.m. tonight, so far five separate incidents have taken place.

And so a MNDF rescued a vessel near Kaafu atoll Thulhaagiri transporting 27 tourists after the vessel started taking in water. There were a total of 33 people on board at the time.

MNDF said that they have been mobilized following reports of a yacht in the Hulhumalé lagoon.

In the torrential rains in the central atolls, capital city, Malé have been experience nonstop rain since dusk while strong winds have took down some billboards on the streets causing some damage to the houses.

MP for the Vilimalé constituency, Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik said that they have started clearing the trees that fell in Vilimalé during the strong winds. And the Housing Minister, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said that a team from the Ministry will be arriving at Vilimalé soon.
