Flooding affects homes in Nadella, Th. Omadhoo

Flooding has affected homes in G. Dh. Nadella and Th. Omadhoo, reports National Disaster Management Center (NDMC).

Director of NDMC, Sofeenaaz Hussain reported to “Sun” this Thursday that torrential rain caused some level of flood damage to homes in Nadella and Omadhoo.

Sofeenaaz said that Maldives National Defense Force and Maldives Police Force was working on draining the flood water in Nadella.

“We have received report flood water affected five houses in Th. Omadhoo. There wasn’t any extensive damage. And the police and MNDF are working on draining the flood water in Nadella,” said Sofeenaaz.

She said the torrential rain caused the most damage in Hithadhoo, Addu City where e roofs of 12 houses were blown away in a tornado.

Sofeenaaz said residents of the 12 houses have been relocated to homes of their relatives with the assistance of Addu City Council, and that MNDF and MPS was working on repairing the roofs of the houses.

She said NDMC was keeping a close watch over the situation as National Meteorological Service has forecasted heavy rain over the weekend.
