President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom is keeping close watch of the situation in Hithadhoo, Addu City after the destructive tornado which hit the city last Wednesday night, reports President’s Office.
The tornado which hit Hithadhoo on Wednesday night destroyed at least 12 homes.
Spokesperson at President’s Office, Ibrahim Muaz Ali tweeted on Wednesday night that
President Yameen learned news of the tornado and the destruction it caused with great sadness. He said the President was keeping a close eye on the situation.
Addu City Mayor, Abdulla Sodiq (Soabe) reported in an interview to RajjeTV that Addu City Council, Maldives National Defense Force, Maldives Police Service, National Disaster
Management Center and Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure was working together to provide temporary housing arrangements for residents of the homes destroyed in the tornado.
He also said that State Minister at President’s Office, Mohamed Mujuthaz called the council for an update on the situation in Hithadhoo.
Soabe reported in the interview that no one was injured in the incident.
