There’s no one with more expertise in winning elections in Maldives than President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, says Minister of Tourism and Deputy Leader of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Moosa Zameer.
Zameer made the comment during his speech at the government coalition gathering at Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) bastion in Male’ City last Wednesday night.
In his speech, Zameer said that the outcome of the Local Council Election was no reason to feel hopeless and abandon efforts.
Zameer said that though the group, during the days of Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) lost Presidential Election in 2008, he won votes from all constituencies he campaigned for.
He said that DRP had been immersed in dissent when the time came for People’s Majlis Election in 2009. He said that President Yameen had realized even at that moment that everyone needed to work together in order to win the election. He said that Yameen campaigned for just one month but still won the election.
“So there’s nobody more expert than President when it comes to winning elections in Maldives,” said Zameer.
Zameer said President Yameen planned on opening PPM bastions in all Maldivian islands within the next two to three weeks.
“MDA, PPM and DRP are working together. The bastions will link leaders of the parties and constituents,” said Zameer.
He said that PPM had experience in both winning and losing, in being a small party and a large party, and being part of a coalition.
“I have nothing more to say. God willing, we will win the 2018 election in one round,” said Zameer.
