Elections Commission (EC) has announced the decision to hold a second round of voting for Th. Madifushi Council for elect its three council members.
Member of EC, Ahmed Akram reported to “Sun” this Tuesday morning that the decision was made in light of investigation into a complaint filed with Compliance Bureau of EC.
One of the voters from Madufushi during the Local Council Election on May 6 was given a ballot paper from another council. And the candidates who won seats at Madifushi Council did so by difference of only one vote.
Seven candidates competed for seats at Madifushi Council.
Four candidates will compete during the second round.
The results released by EC show two Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) candidates and one Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate won the vote.
The two PPM candidates – Abbas Ahmed and Ali Haseen won by 389 votes each. And the MDP candidate Hassan Abdulla won by 388 votes.
The results show four candidates lost the election – the PPM candidate who lost got 387 votes, MDP candidate Ahmed Naseem got 356 votes, MDP candidate Ahmed Adheel got 357 votes, and independent candidate Ali Rasheed got 9 votes.
