Police arrest 2 suspects actively involved in Yamin’s murder

The two suspects who actively participated in the human rights activist and blogger Yamin Rasheed’s murder are under custody, reports the police.

Yamin Rasheed, 29, was found with multiple stab wounds on the stairwell of his residence in the early hours of April 23.

He died minutes after he was taken to the hospital.

Police released images captured from CCTV footage of Yamin’s residence which show two individuals who the authority believes to have actively participated in the murder.

Police released a statement this Monday in which the authority said it has made seven arrests in connection with the murder.

“Seven people have been arrested in this case. We assure you this includes the two people suspected of active involvement in the murder seen in the photos released by the police,” read the statement.

Police also expressed confidence in a success outcome in the case based on the hard work and dedication of those involved in the investigation.

“We take this opportunity to assure the people of Maldives that with the grace of Almighty Allah, those involved in Yamin’s murder will be brought to justice,” said the police in the statement.

Police have not released the identities of any of the seven suspects under custody.

“Sun” has, however, received confirmation on the identify of one of the suspects – 18-year-old Mohamed Dhifran from G. Dh. Gadhdhoo – from his family.
