Court has granted extension to the remand period for suspect in the attempted murder of High Court judge Shujau Usman – former Senior Policy Executive at Ministry of Education, Ibrahim Haneef – for the fourth time.
Police media official reported to “Sun” that Criminal Court ordered that Haneef be remanded to police custody for five more days last Thursday, May 11.
Haneef was arrested by the police on April 4, before which his mobile phone was confiscated under court order.
Haneef is close to Vilingili MP Saud Hussain – who recently allied himself with former Maldivian President and ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)’s ousted leader, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.
Both Haneef and Judge Shujau – who Haneef is accused of attempting to murder - are natives of G. A. Vilingili.
A demonstration was held in Vilingili in April in protest following Haneef’s arrest.
