2 Komandoo MDP candidates tie; go to 2nd round of voting

Two Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidates competing for a seat at Sh. Komandoo Council have gone through to a second round of voting after they received equal votes at the Local Council Election held on May 6.

The two MDP candidates will be facing off for the third seat at the council.

Interim results released by Elections Commission show Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) candidate Mohamed Shujuan won the election with 568 votes and MDP candidate Mohamed Mufeedh with 556 votes.

MDP candidates Ahmed Riffath and Mohamed Arif Ahmed both received 518 votes – the third highest number of votes. This means Riffath and Arif will be facing off each other at a second round of voting to determine who wins the third seat at the council.

Two more PPM candidates who competed for Komandoo Council – Ismail Shaheem and Ibrahim Abdulla – both lost the election. Shaheem got 500 votes while Ibrahim got 485 votes.
