Recounts on 24 sheets to verify election results

Elections Commission has announced its decision to conduct recounts on 24 result sheets prepared by the commission to verify the results of Local Council Election held on May 6.

Member of EC, Ahmed Akram reported to “Sun” this Thursday that the commission decided to recount ballots inside 24 envelopes because of discrepancies with some of the figures written on the sheets.

“It’s for verification because of discrepancies in figures, for example the number of female voters and number of male voters,” said Akram.

EC has prepared more than 8,000 result sheets – all automated to enter systems and show up on screens when they are placed on them.

Akram said the recount was on 24 sheets rejected by the system.

Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is leading in some of the council interim results which have been released by EC so far.
