Yamin’s murder case sent to UN committees for inquiry

Case of the brutal murder of local human rights activist and blogger – Yamin Rasheed- has been sent to relevant United Nations committees for inquiry by Yamin’s family.

29-year-old Yamin was found with multiple stab wounds on the stairwell of his residence in the early hours of April 23.

He died minutes after he was taken to the hospital.

Yamin’s family has confirmed submitting the letter. The family says they wish UN to intervene in the investigation into the murder and bring the culprits to justice.

The family wrote in the letter that they considered Maldives Police Service incapable of conducting a full investigation into the case.

They noted in their letter the lack of completion of investigation into the murder of parliamentarian and Islamic scholar Dr. Afrasheem Ali as well as the abduction of journalist Ahmed Rilwan.

The family alleged some of the circumstances around Yamin’s murder and the two cases were similar.

The police have arrested six suspects in connection with the investigation into Yamin’s murder.

The police have provided no official confirmation on the arrests, but stated recently that they had made huge progress.
