Quick action in investigating and imposing penalties in cases of corruption can minimize the damage, says Vice President Abdulla Jihad.
Jihad made the comment during his speech at the opening ceremony of ACC’s National Conference held at Islamic University of Maldives this Wednesday.
Jihad said that all State organizations needed to work together to stop corruption, and stressed the need to expedite penalties for cases of corruption.
“No one will disagree that expediting investigation and penalties in cases of corruption can exponentially minimize the damage,” said Jihad.
Jihad also said the judiciary needed to be modernized in order to deal with corruption. He said that no one working in the judiciary would disagree with the need for modernization. He said that all judicial bodies needed to come to agreement about it.
“People need to see confident fulfilment of duties by law enforcement agencies,” said Jihad.
He said the government was conducting major infrastructure development projects across the country, and that it did not wish to see any corruption taking place in any of the projects.
“With the fast pace of development in the country to day and the expansion of business interactions, the government does not wish to see the shadow of corruption to fall on any of this,” said Jihad.
Jihad said the development of the country under the current government was corruption-free. And that all perpetrators of corruption will be dealt with justly and fairly.
