Taxi driver collapses mid-drive, dies

A 55-year-old taxi driver working in Male’ City passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, after collapsing midway into driving a passenger to a destination.

The taxi driver Abu Bakr Ibrahim from Feeroazge in B. Eydhafushi worked for the taxi center “Kulee Dhuveli”.

A taxi driver who works for the same tax center reported to “Sun” that Abu Bakr Ibrahim died at around 7 pm last Tuesday.

The driver said Abu Bakr got out of the car midway into driving a passenger after complaining of chest pain and then collapsed.

“Bakr got out of the taxi due to the discomfort just as he took a turn from near Jamaluddin School towards Advanced Medical Clinic. He had a passenger on the backseat. Get got out and then collapsed onto the ground,” said Abu Bakr’s co-worker.

He said bystanders got Abu Bakr into a taxi and took him to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital for treatment. He said Abdu Bakr has died at the hospital while receiving treatment.

Abu Bakr is believed to have suffered a heart attack.

His workers reported that Abu Bakr had been ill for some time, and had rarely worked during the time.
