Police vow to bring Yamin’s killers to justice

Maldives Police Service has vowed to the people of Maldives to bring those who murdered human rights activist and blogger Yamin Rasheed to justice.

MPS released a statement this Tuesday in which it expressed confidence in the progress made in the investigation so far.

“With the will of almighty Allah, we assure all Maldivian people to bring to justice everyone involved in this heinous act,” wrote MPS in its statement.

Yamin Rasheed, 29, was found with multiple stab wounds on the stairwell of his residence in the early hours of April 23.

He died minutes after he was taken to the hospital.

A reliable source has confirmed to “Sun” that six suspects have been arrested by police in connection with the murder.

The first suspect arrested in connection with Yamin’s murder was 18-year-old Mohamed Dhifran from G. Dh. Gadhdhoo. He lived in M. Afsana which is located in the same neighborhood as the residence of Yamin – M. Spatula.

MPS has not provided official confirmation on the five other arrests.
