Elections Commission reports it has so far received 74 complaints with respect to the Local Council Election, but nothing significant enough to affect the results.
Member of EC, Ahmed Akram reported to “Sun” that the commission received 74 council election-related complaints by end of last Monday; 50 of which the commission had replied to, and 24 complaints which are under investigation.
Akram said the complaints included delays, hot temperature inside polling stations, shortage of ballot paper and complaints related to observers.
“No complaint file so far is significant enough to affect the outcome of the election,” said Akram.
Local Council Election was held in polling stations across the country and neighboring Sri Lanka last Saturday, May 6.
The election was scheduled to start at 8 am, but some polling stations faced delays of up to three hours. Polling stations were scheduled to close at 4 pm, but EC ordered an extension of two hours to all polling stations and two more hours to polling station which faced delays.
