Observers: Council election was free and fair

International observers of the Local Council Election has said that everything in the election proceeded smoothly and it was a free and fair election.

Speaking at a press conference hosted by the observers from the six countries invited by the Elections Commission, the Commissioner of Elections of Afghanistan said that the opportunity was given to cover the election very closely and the work of the members and employees of the commission has to be appreciated.

Although the Elections Commission initially announced that the voting will continue until 4 p.m., the deadline was later extended to 6 p.m. to which the oppositions reponded that it was illegal.

Answering to the questions from the journalists regarding the issue, the observers responded that it was done to give the voting opportunity to more people and it is not a problem.

The oppositions said that they do not believe the election was a fair one.
