Oppositions declare victory in the Local Council Election

Opposition coalition has declared victory over the government in the Local Council Election held yesterday.

At a press conference held at the at Maafannu Kunooz this evening, the opposition coalition said that they won large number of seats to the opposition parties and it was from the effort from the opposition leaders.

The representatives from MDP, Jumhooree Party, Adhaalath Party and former President Maumoon at the press conference said that the government has to accept defeat and respect the decision of the people.

The opposition expressed their gratitude to the public for the support in winning the election. They said that the opposition achieved victory in the city councils and individual island councils as well.

While the opposition coalition has declared victory, the government coalition also said that the votes counted so far attains victory to the government.

At a PPM press conference today, the Vice President of the party and the Minister of Tourism, Moosa Zameer said that the results announced so far show a number of seats to the PPM coalition and it is full victory to the government.

Zameer said that the total so far tally at 219 to the PPM coalition while the combined opposition has 206. He said that there are about 100 ballot boxes pending the count and they are at regions with massive support for PPM.
