An officer of the Maldives Police Service has testified in court saying that no data was recovered from the phone of the former Commissioner of Police and the current MP for Kimbidhoo constituency, Abdulla Riyaz, since the phone is locked.
Testifying at the hearing at the Criminal Court today in the trial against MP Riyaz for obstruction of a police, Staff Sergeant Ismail Shareef, who prepared the mobile forensic report, said that they attempted to recover data before the code for the phone was given. But since the phone was locked, no data was recovered.
Staff Sergeant Shareef said that a special software was used in the attempt and it would not affect any data on the phone.
MP Riyaz gave the PIN for the phone at a previous hearing at the court.
At the hearing today, the police officer produced by the defense to ask if the police requested a separate court order for the PIN code of the phone refused to testify. And so the judge said that the court would pursue the inquiry to see if such an order was requested.
The next hearing in the case was scheduled for Sunday where the defence evidence will be discussed.
