PG requests PPM candidate be taken into custody

Prosecutor General has requested the High Court for ruling PPM’s candidate for the North-Machangolhi seat, Ghanim Abdul Gafoor to be taken into police custody.

Ghanim is a suspect in a street fight which took place in Alimas Carnival area of Male’ City in March, 2017.

PG’s request that he be taken back into police custody comes after Criminal Court ordered his release.

Ghanim was also prosecuted in the stabbing of a military officer in 2013. He was exonerated by Criminal Court.

He is PPM's candidate for the North-Machangolhi seat of Male' City Council for Local Council Election 2017 - scheduled to be held on May 6.
