Press are to be barred from the hearing of Male’ City councilman Zaidul Ameen scheduled for 11 am, this Tuesday.
The reason for the decision is unclear at this point.
State has pressed three charges on Zaidul Ameen; attempted irregular dissemination of
information, acquirement of information through irregular means, and obstruction of due process.
He was charged with attempted irregular dissemination of information in reference to Article 232 of Penal Code; acquirement of information through irregular means in reference to Article 233 of Penal Code; and obstruction of due process in reference to Article 533 of Penal Code.
Zaidul Ameen faces a maximum sentence of three years in prison if he is found guilty of all three charges.
Each charge carries a minimum four-month and 24-day prison sentence.
Zaidul Ameen was arrested by authorities on January 13. His remand was extended nine times.
He is accused of attempting to influence some senior State officials, spying, and collection and dissemination of information through irregular means.
He is currently under house arrest.
