Tata continues Naadhee project despite decision to terminate contract

Tata Housing continues to do construction work on Naadhee despite decision by Maldivian government to cancel its contract with the Indian company to build luxury apartment complexes on the two sites - Naadhee and Odeon.

Maldivian government cancelled its contract with Tata for construction on Naadhee and Odeon on Wednesday, April 19.

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said the duration of the notice of termination sent to Tata will end this week, but he did not say the date in which the contract will be dissolved.

Tata has continued work on Naadhee despite the announcement.

“Sun” reached out to Tata Housing for a comment regarding the decision to continue construction work despite the Maldivian government’s decision.

General Manager of Tata Housing, Kallol Biswas said the work on its projects in Male’ City was proceeding as instructed by the head office.

He referred “Sun” to Tata’s headquarters in Mumbai, India for further information.

Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has made no comment regarding the ongoing construction work.

Minister Muizzu said last week Tata had not done the construction work on the two sites despite multiple concessions allowed by Maldivian government.

He said the government did not want either the Maldivian government or Tata to incur any more losses due to the delay.

“We want to terminate the contract as the work hasn’t been done to date. We have made this decision in reference to the clauses in the contract and informed the parties of this decision,” said Muizzu.
