Maldives Center for Islamic Finance (MCIF) has established the South Asian Institute for Islamic Finance – a regional educational institute for Islamic finance and economics.
The institute was inaugurated in a function held at Champa Central Hotel last Sunday by Minister of Home Affairs, Azleen Ahmed.
During his speech, Azleen focused on the effort and assistance by government to establish the regional institution.
Managing Director of MCIF, Ibrahim Didi said the purpose of the institution was to increase capability of people working in the Islamic finance industry.
He noted that the number of Maldivians educated in Islamic finance were few.
Chairman of MCIF, Dr. Aishath Muneeza announced during the function that South Asian Institute for Islamic Finance will be starting some of its courses later this year.
MCIF said the government wanted to make Maldives an Islamic economic hub, and that the biggest priority of the center in support of that effort was to develop human resources in the field.
It said the South Asian Institute for Islamic Finance was key to achieving the vision.
