Fenaka Corporation reports that temporary power has been restored to G. Dh. Fiyoaree after the fire in the island’s powerhouse on Friday took the life of one employee and cut off power to the entire island.
The fire took place when the battery-set used to power the 250-kilowatt generator in the powerhouse exploded.
Fenaka Corporation has issued a press statement in which it said a 180-kilowatt generator brought in to Fiyoaree from G. A. Dhevvadhoo at 4:14 am this Sunday has been used to restore power to the island.
The corporation also said the powerhouse was being shifted to an uninhabited part of the island.
“The corporation is now working on readying the building constructed for relocation of the powerhouse to an uninhabited area by making necessary changes for permanent power services,” read the statement.
The corporation said it will take about a month for permanent power services to be restored to the island.
The fire took the life of Nazeedh Abdulla, 26, from Chichandaage in Fiyoaree.
