Police seize Qasim’s phone with Court Order

Maldives Police Service has seized the phone of the Jumhooree Party Leader Qasim Ibrahim with a court order.

Hisaan Hussain from the JP Leader’s legal team confirmed to Sun Media that Qasim’s phone has been seized. But he did not give any further details on it.

Police entered Qasim’s private residence, Maafannu Villa, and the main headquarters of his business, Villa Group, with search warrants earlier today searching for evidence related to the bribery and allegations of a coup.

The search warrant for Villa headquarter was signed by Criminal Court judge Abdul Baaree Yoosuf, and reads evidence related to the suspected cases of bribery of parliamentarians, conspiracy to stage a coup, create strife within security forces and create unrest in the country is suspected of being hidden within the building.

After a number of officers left the scene, Lawyer Hisaan Hussain said that police found no evidence related to the case from his residence.
