Seerat barred from leaving Bangladesh without police permission

Kashmir native Seerat Paruveen Mohamed – who Radha Athif’s parents suspect of involvement in their daughter’s death in Islami Bank Medical College in Rajshahi, Bangladesh - has been barred from leaving Bangladesh without permission from the police.

Seerat was a fellow classmate and friend of Maldivian medical student Raudha, 21, who was found dead in her dorm room on March 29.

Rajshahi Magistrate Court has ordered the police to conduct a full and proper investigation into Raudha’s death following a case filed by the family who believe she was murdered.

The family believe Seerat to be involved in Raudha’s death, and presented reasons for the suspicions to court.

The investigation has now been handed over to Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh.

Shah Makhdum Police Station of Rajshahi reports a temporary travel ban has been issued on Seerat so that she is not allowed to leave Bangladesh without permission from the police.

In an earlier interview to “Sun”, Raudha’s father Dr. Mohamed Athif said the family was aware

Raudha had been having problems with Seerat and that she had even tried to slip Raudha a large quantity of sleeping pills mixed in a drink.

He said that data found from Seerat’s phone also showed evidence of problems between the two.

A team from Maldives Police Service travelled to Bangladesh to assist in the investigation, but have since return.

MPS said in a press conference last week that the marks found on Raudha’s neck had proved to be from the scarf found tied around her neck, and that evidence of her saliva was found on both the scarf and the clothes she was wearing.

The police also said there was no strong evidence linking Seerat to the case.
