Indian Foreign Secretary, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has arrived in the Maldives today on an official visit.
Maldivian Foreign Ministry said that the Indian Foreign Secretary, S. Jaishankar was welcomed at Velana International Airport by the Maldivian Foreign Secretary, Dr. Ali Naseer and the Indian Ambassador to the Maldives, Akhilesh Mishra.
The Indian Foreign Secretary is set to meet high ranking officials of the Maldivian government and discuss bilateral relations between the two countries.

The Foreign Secretary’s visit comes at a time when the Maldives is in a chaotic political state with some opposition leaders in prison and others with charges pending against them.
While the oppositions have started a reform program, the focus is currently on the Parliament.
