Minister: Construction Bill will open more doors for the industry

The Construction Bill - passed by People’s Majlis last Wednesday night – will open new doors, creating more opportunity for the construction industry in the country, says Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

In a press statement issued via Facebook Live before departing on an official trip to China, Muizzu said the bill will create greater opportunities of development to major, medium, as well as small enterprises operating in the construction industry.

He said that it will take 6 months for the bill to become effective, during which time the government will be compiling and publishing regulations needed for implementation of the bill.

“This bill will, god willing, open more doors for the Maldivian construction industry. This bill will encourage more Maldivians to join the construction field. This bill also forces improvement in quality of construction,” said Muizzu in his statement.

The minister said the bill will bring an overall positive impact to the Maldivian economy.
