Salary of Pay Commission members set to MVR 10,000

Parliament has passed to assign a monthly salary of MVR 10,000 to the members of the National Pay Commission and MVR 12,000 to the Vice President of the Commission.

After reviewing the situation, the Economic Committee decided that aside from their salaries, the members would only receive what is mentioned in the law. The Economic Committee took a unanimous vote to pass that the members of the Pay Commission would not receive any other benefit.

The Committee decision was passed from the Parliament floor without any changes with 52 votes. Only two votes were against it.

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom appointed members to the National Pay Commission last October.

The Pay Commission consisted of five members include four appointed by the President along with the Finance Minister. The President of the Commission is the Finance Minister.
