Six arrested under suspicion of throwing stones at Gayoom

Police have arrested six people in Feydhoo, under suspicion of throwing stones at former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s private car while he was returning from a function of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) in Addu City.

A Police Media Official said that the incident took place at around midnight last night near the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) office in Feydhoo, and that MDP member Ahmed Mirzad is among those arrested.

He also said that the car window was broken and the security officer in the car was injured in the attack.

Police have also arrested three people in Hulhumeedhoo, who tried to obstruct Gayoom’s meeting with members of PPM in Hulhumeedhoo.
