JP, MDP decides to take direct action following Qasim’s arrest

Jumhooree Party (JP) and MDP has decided to take direct action following the arrest of the JP Leader Qasim Ibrahim tonight.

In two separate meetings of the councils of the two politicals passed the decision with the unanimous vote of the members present.

At the emergency meeting at MDP hall tonight, the resolution was presented at the MDP national council by the President of MDP Nolhivarum constituency, Ibrahim Waheed.

The resolution said that while the four parties have signed to work together, Qasim was arrested on charges with no basis.

Deputy Leader of JP, Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan was the chair at the emergency meeting of the JP council where the decision was made with the unanimous vote of all 25 members present.

JP Leader, Qasim Ibrahim was arrested tonight at his residence, Maafannuvilla with a court order. He has now been taken to the investigation jail in Dhoonidhoo.

Police said that that Qasim was arrested in suspicion of bribing MPs in the no confidence vote against the Speaker of the Parliament, Abdulla Maseeh, and in suspicion of attempting to influence the no confidence motion pending against the Deputy Speaker.
