JP threatens to overthrow the government within the law

Jumhooree Party has said that the current government is not ruling within the Constitution and if it continues, the government will be overthrown within the law.

In an interview on VTV following the arrest of the JP Leader, Qasim Ibrahim, the Secretary General of JP, Ahmed Sameer criticized the current government and President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

Sameer said that President Yameen has been influencing the independent institutes and the law enforcement agencies of the state and the Jumhooree Party condemns such actions.

Since Qasim arrest has come at a time where there is a no confidence vote pending against the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Sameer said that this was an attempt by the President to influence the vote.

He said that arresting Qasim would not put an end to the effort by the three leaders in the country to bring freedom for the people and it would not affect the moral.

JP Leader, Qasim Ibrahim was arrested tonight at his residence, Maafannuvilla with a court order. He has now been taken to the investigation jail in Dhoonidhoo.

Police said that that Qasim was arrested in suspicion of bribing MPs in the no confidence vote against the Speaker of the Parliament, Abdulla Maseeh, and in suspicion of attempting to influence the no confidence motion pending against the Deputy Speaker.
