After an electricity blackout in Raa atoll Maduvvari yesterday morning, a temporary solution has be found to the problem restoring the power to the entire island this evening.
After two of the three generators used to power the island by FENAKA Corporation broke yesterday morning, the island was being powered using a single generator.
An employee of the company who wishes to remain anonymous said yesterday that the broken are the biggest generator used to power the island (the 250 kW) and the 160 kW engine. The employee said that they have a 128 kW working but it can only power 40 houses out of the 398 residential homes on the island every two hours.
Talking to Sun Media, the President of the Maduvvari Island Council, Hassan Abdul-Raheem said that the two generators that were broken was repaired and power was restored to the island at 4:30 p.m. today.
He said that a permanent solution to provide electricity to the island of 2,300 people would require a 300 or a 400 kW generator and so a request have been made with the relevant authorities.
The the people of Maduvvari has lived over 24 hours without electricity, the school was closed today and the health center used their backup generator. And sources say that although the Council Office was opened, no service was provided due to the electrical blackout.
