PPM: Maumoon not yet dismissed from the party

Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), currently run under the President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, has said that the party has not yet dismissed the President of the Party, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom from the party.

Speaker of the PPM disciplinary committee under President Yameen, Ali Waheed told Sun Media that Maumoon will lose his membership from a decision from the disciplinary committee and the committee has not yet received such case.

The party decided to submit a case against Maumoon to dismiss from the party after the member of the PPM Parliamentary Group, Ibrahim Falaah warned that Maumoon will lose his position as the President of the Party.

MP Falaah threatened to make Maumoon step down after Maumoon signed an agreement with the opposition leaders without discussing with the party. After Maumoon decided to work with the former President Mohamed Nasheed, the Vice President of the Party, Abdul Raheem said that Maumoon is no longer with the thinking of PPM.

In a tweet sent out following the rumors of his dismissal from PPM, Maumoon said that the other faction has no legal standing and cannot dismiss members and that he would continue to be a member of PPM.
