Police conduct search of Adheeb’s cell in Dhoonidhoo

Maldives Police Service has conducted a search at the cell of the former Vice President, Ahmed Adheeb in Dhoonidhoo where he is serving a 33-year sentence.

Sources say that the search was conducted in the afternoon today but it is unclear if anything was found in the cell.

Police said that the search was conducted at the cell not because Adheeb was occupying but it is normal for a search.

A search at the former Vice President’s cell has taken place less than a day before a no-confidence vote against the President of the Parliament, Abdulla Maseeh. But it is not clear if the two are related.

The former Vice President Adheeb was convicted for his involvement in the IED explosion on board the Presidential Launch, Finifenma and the corruption inside the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC). There are more cases against him pending at the courts.
