Opposition party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has appealed to the authorities not to withhold information regarding the H1N1 influenza outbreak in the country and increase the transparency and speed information is provided to the public as much as possible.
MDP, during its press conference this Tuesday afternoon accused the authorities of withholding information regarding the H1N1 influenza outbreak for political reasons.
“We appeal to the government that during a flu outbreak such as this, officials from relevant agencies relay information to healthcare institutions as soon as possible and stress the need for clinical tests,” said former Leader of MDP, Dr. Ibrahim Didi during the press conference.
Dr. Didi said it was important that treatment for the flu isn’t solely available from just Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital given the large population in Male’ City. He said it was it was important that clinics are set up in each district of the city to treat the flu.
He appealed to the general population to take personal responsibility and take preventive measures against the flu given the rapid rate at which its spreading.
MDP pledged its assistance to both the government and the people in the efforts to contain the spread of the flu.
Dr. Didi said MDP will be monitoring the situation in the atolls and providing assistance through the party’s representatives.
