STELCO: Electrical issue resolved

State Electric Company (STELCO) has said that issue that caused a shortage of a high voltage cable which caused a mass blackout of electricity and water in Malé, has now been resolved.

The city-wide blackout occurred around 1 p.m. The services resumed about three hours later.

Senior Engineer at STELCO, Abdul Rauf told Sun Media tonight that the blackout today was caused by an electrical short in a cable.

While some media outlets reported that the cable shorted due to water, Rauf said that it is difficult to say that water was the exact cause of the short but it is possible.

Communications and water services were interrupted along with the blackout today causing massive inconvenience to the people.

And some schools paused their afternoon sessions, people left their officers and gathered on the streets.
