Heavy rainfall over H. Dh. Kulhudhuffushi for four straight hours last Saturday caused flooding and extensive damage to the island.
President of Kulhudhuffushi Council, Ali Mohamed reported this Sunday that heavy rain started falling on the island at approximately 8:30 pm on Saturday and continued non-stop for about four hours.
Ali Mohamed said that the rain cause flooding on the streets, with the floodwater entering some of the houses and damaging household items.
He said it was difficult at the moment to determine how many houses were affected by flooding as it had taken place in different areas throughout the island.

Kulhudhuffushi Council reported the heavy rain and flooding resulted in a power outage and sewage leaking out onto the streets in some areas.
Maldives National Defense Force, Maldives Police Service and Maldives Red Crescent is working on pumping out the floodwater.
Director of Disaster Management Center, Hisaan Hassan said Kulhudhuffushi Council had reported extensive damage to three houses due to the flooding. And that the council reported residents of one of the houses had been moved elsewhere.
Hisaan said the center was working on identifying additional islands in the north potentially affected by heavy rain and flooding.
Director of Maldives Meteorological Service, Ahmed Rasheed reported that information collected from H. Dh. Hanimaadhoo showed 76 millimeters of rain fell over the northern region of Maldives over the past 24 hours.
Ahmed Rasheed said it was a considerably large quantity of water to fall over such a short period of time. And that flooding had taken place in some islands in the past with just 50 millimeters of rainfall.
