Maldivian preps for flights to Lanka

National airline, Maldivian has started preparations to expand its operations with scheduled flights to neighboring Sri Lanka.

The preparations began after Minister of Tourism of Maldives, Moosa Zameer and Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation of Sri Lanka, Nimal Siripala De Silva announced during their meeting on March 3 that Maldivian had been granted permission for Lanka operations.

The meeting was attended by Maldivian ambassador to Sri Lanka - Zahiya Zareer, Chief Executive of Maldives Civil Aviation Authority – Hussain Jaleel, Managing Director of Island Aviation Services Limited – Abdul Haaris, and Director General of Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka - H.M.C. Nimalsiri.

An official from Maldivian who spoke to “Sun” said the airline hadn’t yet finalized a date to launch its operations to Lanka and that details were being discussed within the company.

He said further details would be released to the media within the next couple of weeks.
