Maldives Gas: Cylinder which leaked contained oxygen, not gas

Maldives Gas reports the cylinder which leaked onboard one of its delivery trucks in middle of Boduthakurufaanu Magu in Male’ City contained medical oxygen and not gas.

The medical oxygen cylinder had leaked twice with the sound of loud explosions as the truck passed the “Café Thaasir” located on Boduthakurufaanu Magu at approximately 10:45 pm last Saturday.

The sound of the explosion and assumption it was gas the truck was carrying caused some of the bystanders to flee the area in panic.

A senior official from Maldives Gas reported this Sunday morning that the cylinder which leaked contained medical oxygen and not flammable gas.

“It wasn’t gas. It wouldn’t cause a fire,” said the official.
