A special logo has been selected to mark 50-years of diplomatic ties between Maldives and Japan.
Diplomatic ties between Maldives and Japan was established on December 27, 1967 when the Japanese ambassador to Maldives at the time - Seizo Hinata – delivered his credentials to Maldivian King Mohamed Fareed Didi.
With Maldives and Japan set to mark Golden Jubilee to its diplomatic ties in December 27; Japanese embassy had organized a competition to design a logo which will be used celebrations this year.
The competition was announced on December 27, 2016 and the contestants given one month for submissions.
Tokyo citizen Akira Unno’s logo was selected the winner from among 14 contestants.
Akira’s logo represents the flags of both Maldives and Japan and has the number 50 to represent 50-years of diplomatic ties.
Japan opened its embassy in Maldives on January 2, 2016.
The embassy is headed by Ambassador Kazumi Endo.
Maldivian ambassador to Japan is Mohamed Hussain Shareef – former Minister for President’s Office.
