Government condemns violence during MDP protests

The government has strongly condemned the violence being inflicted on the public, journalists, Policemen, MNDF personnel, and state property during the current series of protests by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) led by former President Mohamed Nasheed.

A statement issued today by the state affirms that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure peace, order and public safety, hence, such activities will not be tolerated.

The government assured the public that action will be taken against those responsible.

The government also stressed that everybody is equal before the law, and urged the judicial institutions to take the necessary action to penalise those responsible for the violence.

Citizens were advised to cooperate with the Police and MNDF in their search for people committing these crimes.
