President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has said that the government will continue to exercise tolerance in its undertakings, and assured to stand by the people of Maldives.
The President made this statement while addressing the people of Kaafu Atoll Huraa last night, at a ceremony held to inaugurate the Huraa Social Centre.
He referred to Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) current activities and said that he will remain undeterred in his efforts to serve the people.
He said that people who try to mislead others will not be successful in their efforts.
The President praised the people of Huraa for their solidarity, and noted that peace and order in a country is dependent on people’s compassion for one another.
“We are brothers and sisters who speak the same language and embrace the same religion. We should not forget this, and attack each other for personal gains. That’s not the right way,” the President said.
In his speech, the President also highlighted the theme of the World Population Day which was marked yesterday.
He said that it was evident in last night’s ceremony that the men and women of Huraa contribute equally to society.
He expressed confidence that the Social Centre will allow the women of Huraa to obtain the education, information and training necessary for them to contribute to the island’s development.
