60 illegal immigrants arrested from Thilafushi

Maldives immigration and Maldives Police Service have arrested 60 illegal immigrants from K. Thilafushi in a joint operation.

The operation was conducted in Thilafushi this Thursday.

Information officer for Maldives immigration, Hassan Khaleel said the authorities checked papers of more than 100 migrant workers in the operation.

He said the 60 people who were arrested were working on their own.

“It includes people arrested from different areas. There weren’t under the care of anyone. Most of them were arrested from the boat yard area. They were all doing their own work on the island,” said Hassan Khaleel.

Maldives Immigration and Maldives Police Service have been conducting a number of operations to crackdown on illegal migrants working in both Male’ City and the atolls.
