Sewage system project inaugurated in Gaddhoo

The sewage system project has been inaugurated in Gaafu Dhaalu Gaddhoo today. The project was officially inaugurated at a special ceremony by the Environment Minister, Thoriq Ibrahim.

The Environment Ministry said that an eight-kilometer sewage network along with a sewage treatment plant capable of processing 410 tons of waste would be installed in the MVR 41 million project by the state and the loan from the Opec For International Development (OFID).

By completion, the sewage system would facilitate 708 residential homes and other buildings according to the Ministry.

The contract for the project was awarded to the state water company, MWSC, in May 2016.

While the sewage system project has been initiated in Gaddhoo as part of the government efforts to provide a sustainable safe water and a sewage system, a safe drinking water and sewage project was launched in Gaafu Alifu Kolamaafushi yesterday.
