Family: Cause for chemical attack unclear, no prior threat

The family of the Ibrahim Mohamed who was the victim of an acid attack in Raa Dhuvaafaru has said that there was no threat of any kind prior to the attack.

The 71-year-old man has been received treatment at the Dhuvaafaru Health Center and the Raa atoll Regional Hospital. He was brought to Malé City for further treatment at noon today.

A relative of the elderly victim said that Ibrahim Mohamed was never the type to get into arguments with people and had no falling out with anyone.

Since his transfer to Malé on the 12:20 p.m. flight and started treatment at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), he has been recovering.

Living at the island with his wife are two daughters and four sons.

The former fisherman is now active in the club and association activities in the island.

While the Police investigate the chemical attack, no arrests have been made so far.

In December 2016, two people were arrested following a chemical attack on a woman in Shaviyani atoll Lhaimagu.
