Statistics released by Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) for the month of January shows an increase of income from airport service charge by 40 percent compared to the month of January in 2016.
Income from airport service charge for the month of January is MVR 66.3 million; 40 percent higher than the income of MVR 47.4 million earned in January, 2016.
The airport service charge is included in the price of tickets of people who leave the country.
Airport service charge for Maldivians is USD 12, and USD 25 for foreigners.
Income from airport service charge earned in 2016 is 8.2 percent higher than 2015.
State earned MVR 537.5 million in airport service charge in 2016, compared to MVR 496.6
million earned in 2015.
An additional charge – Airport Development Charge – will be imposed on passengers departing from Velana International Airport starting from March.
ADC for Maldivian is USD 12 and ADC for foreigners is 25.
