Bill on witness testimony by North Fuvahmulah MP Ali Shah has been accepted into People’s Majlis and sent to People’s Majlis Committee on National Security for evaluation.
The bill was accepted into the Majlis with the vote of 59 lawmakers during Majlis sitting this Monday afternoon.
Five lawmakers abstained from the vote and only one lawmaker voted against the bill.
During the preliminary debate on the bill, many lawmakers said they approved the bill, overall, but that the bill needed revisions before it can be passed.
The bill has now been sent to National Security Committee for evaluation, and will be re-sent to the Majlis floor for a vote if the committee approves the bill.
MP Ali Shah, who submitted the bill, said it gave clear instructions on judging witness testimony and the procedure to follow when extracting witness testimony.
MP Shah said he hoped that revisions, if needed, be made during committee evaluation.
