Velana Airport to charge a cargo screening fee

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has said that a decision has been made to charge a screening fee for the cargo being exported out of the country though Velana International Airport.

A circular issued by the MACL said that a fee of MVR 0.15 per kg would be charged for x-ray screening of the export cargo. And upto 400 kg, a minimum of MVR 60 would be charged for the screening. They said that an addition 6 percent would be charged as GST and the service would be provided upon payment.

The screening fee would be implanted from 1 March onwards.

General Manager of Corporate Communications, Hassan Areef told Sun Media that there is currently no charge for the x-ray screening but now a small fee is being implemented since new equipment has been brought in for the screening.
